- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
How to make Dal Tadka
Instructions:
Wash the lentils in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the lentils in water for at least 30 minutes.
Drain the lentils and add them to a pressure cooker along with turmeric powder, salt, and water. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils are soft and cooked.
Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and let them crackle.
Add finely chopped onion and saute until it turns translucent.
Add finely chopped tomato, green chilli, and grated ginger. Saute until the tomatoes are cooked and the mixture becomes soft.
Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, and asafoetida. Mix well.
Add the cooked lentils to the pan and mix well with the onion-tomato mixture.
Add 1/2 cup of water to adjust the consistency of the dal.
Let the dal simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to blend together.
Finally, add chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice to the dal.
Serve hot with steamed rice or Indian bread.
